hen an opera's music
and its story are inextricably intertwined, it results in a highly emotional,
artistically perfect work. Not only does La Boheme's romantic storyline
ring true on a universal level, but it also enjoys such immense popularity
because Puccini made every note count. In addition to welcoming back the
crowd-pleasing Christine Goerke, the elegant Ruth Ann Swenson will be
making both her first Pittsburgh Opera appearance and her anticipated
role debut as the tragic Mimi. What a wonderful way to end an exciting
season full of bold, new voices on the Pittsburgh Opera stage. THE STORY The passion of Puccini resonates
from the powerfully spirited first bars to the heartbreaking conclusion
in his most beloved opera. Set in the bustling streets, smoky cafes and
chilly attics of 19th century Paris, four idealistic and artistic young
bohemians struggle to remain true to their art and loyal to those they
love.
